Ripe plum, dusty cherry and a bit of berry are all there with no assembly required!

The first thing that hits you when tasting this pinot is its rich mouthfeel. The deep color should have given it away, but it still surprised me more than just how flat an entire bedroom set can be packed.

Deep cherry and plum come through in the palate, too. At this price, that’d be enough, but just like getting free hardware for your new armoire, there’s the added bonus of great spiciness (allspice, cinnamon) and nice acidity (but not too bright) that keep the wine lively.

The finish is long and complex, just like so many Swedish words with all those umlauts. Cedar and black cherry hold out the longest, with cinnamon still present in the mouth the way a Danish (the roll, not the people) will make your tongue tingle.

So, just because this wine is priced to be the pinot-equivalent of dorm furniture doesn’t mean it tastes like the wine you drank in college. Grab a bottle for great night curled up on your soffa with your älskare and see what I mean.

Cheers,
TSW

This is an IKEA pinot noir: It’s well-designed, affordable and more than able to perform just like it should.

Of course, if you want a pinot that will last for years and years, you’ll need to pony up for the Crate & Barrel pinot.

Still, Coppola has created an amazing wine that’ll drink fantastically for at least as long as that bookshelf with too many vowels in its name will stand.

The color is quite dark for a pinot – a deep garnet that’s sure to stain the slipcover of your new Ekaaloof couch.

The nose is totally pinot-esque! (Or, at least, foggy-weather pinot-esque.) It’s really smoky, brambly and just a little farmyardy, but totally dominated by fruit.
