Bizarre in a wonderful way, it tastes a bit like apricot syrup drizzled over caramelized peaches and fortified to a dizzying 18% alcohol. I wouldn’t pour it over your morning pancakes, but I highly recommend ending an evening with it! It’s unctuously thick, utterly mouth coating and unabashedly seductive (a great third-to-fifth date wine, if you know what I mean).

Like an ice sculpture or avant-garde independent film, this little half bottle of haute art will disappear quickly. It’s so tasty that, before you know it, you and your sweetie will be cuddling on the couch with an empty bottle.

Actually, that may not be a bad thing given its alcohol content. Drink much more than half a half bottle and you won’t be in the mood for much of anything – especially considering this’ll likely come after already having some “normal” white or red wine.

Still, I predict you’ll want some of this on hand for future dates, so I’d pick up two bottles of this wine when you find it. Yalumba doesn’t release tons of it every year and, like so many independent films, you may not conveniently find it on DVD whenever you like.

Cheers,
TSW

This wine was sent to WoW subscribers in January, but it’s so, so good, we wanted the whole world to know about it:

I think I’ve figured out why this dessert wine is called “Museum Muscat.” Like a museum, the price of admission is low, while the content inside is timeless (non-vintage) and priceless (tastes like it costs a whole lot).

Also like a museum (or at least a good one), this wine bottle contains something unique and memorable. If you’ve never had a high-octane, sweet Muscat, the first taste might surprise you a little, and it isn’t something you’ll immediately forget (like Marcel Duchamp’s “The Fountain” or most anything by Salvador Dali).

The color is reddish-brown with just enough amber hue to suggest that at one time the wine may have been orange – sorta like unsulfured, dried apricots.

The nose – far from a dusty museum – smells like caramel, raisins, nuts and just a hint of bright stone fruit.
